SINCERELY WRONG

Original lyrics by Stan C. Countz

Today millions believe
All sorts of odd things
They look to the stars
Spirit guides and avatars

Who’s to say who’s right or wrong?
Who are we to be jury and judge?
Can’t we all just try to get along?
Life’s too short to hold a grudge!

Will we keep comin’ back as a priest or a quack
Or at least until we finally get more of the facts?
Who cares what we teach or how well we preach
If they don’t see a difference in the way we act?

How many tracts do we have to try to sell?
Will we still go to heaven if we live like hell?
If there is a God, I wonder where He’s gone?
Can we be sincere and be sincerely wrong?

Can we live like the devil all week long
And dawn our halo and robe once a week?
Can we fight and bicker amongst ourselves
And expect others to turn the other cheek?

Did we learn to love or did we learn to hate?
It may be hard to say; it may be hard to tell
Can we compensate when we pass the plate?
Just who is the saint and who is the infidel?

How many tracts do we have to try to sell?
Will we still go to heaven if we live like hell?
If there is a God, I wonder where He’s gone?
Can we be sincere and be sincerely wrong?

Did someone try to pull our wisdom tooth?
Who will tell the fool or the king the truth?
He’s wearing nothing but his birthday suit
Watch the news, do you need more proof?

Should we live our petty lives
By the whim of the tea leaves?
How were the planets aligned
The night we were conceived?

Is there anything sadder than
Climbing a ladder that’s leaning
Against the wrong wall?
Does it matter what we believe at all?

What about the millions of men and women
Who sincerely believe that if they were given
Enough time they could achieve Godhood
And get to heaven by being good?

It seems to me that there’s a pretty big difference
Between being in prison and complete deliverance
Between eternal damnation and eternal salvation
Who but Christ died for the whole wide nation?

Wide is the gate that leads to destruction
It doesn’t take great powers of deduction
To deduce between the truth and fiction
Between consistency and contradiction

Moses and Jesus did what they were told
The same holds true for the prophets of old
What did the Buddha ever do for me or you?
Did he offer to die to prove his love for you?

It may be hard to say; it may be hard to tell
Just who is the saint and who’s the infidel?
How many tracts do we have to try to sell?
Will we still go to heaven if we live like hell?

If there is a God, I wonder where He’s gone?
Does He even hear us when we sing our songs?
Can we be sincere and be sincerely wrong?
Can we be sincere and be sincerely wrong?
